Finca El Triunfo
Finca El Triunfo is a story of achievement, passion, and dedication, started in 2005 by Nicolas and Patricia Ome. The farm's name, meaning “triumph” in Spanish, reflects their joy and pride in what they have accomplished both in agriculture and in life.
It is their first coffee farm, and over the years they have transformed it into an example of excellence in specialty coffee cultivation.
The farm is located in the Huila region, one of Colombia's most renowned coffee-producing areas. Here, volcanic loam soil provides ideal nutrients for healthy coffee trees, while the mountainous climate and abundant water resources, including the Magdalena River, contribute to creating a unique terroir.
Huila forms part of the Colombian Massif, a mountainous region that provides water for domestic and agricultural use to a significant portion of the country's population, reinforcing the area's importance to Colombia's agricultural economy.
In addition to the Pink Bourbon used for this lot, Nicolas and Patricia also grow Red Bourbon, Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo, all varieties valued for their distinctive flavor profiles.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, with particular attention given to selecting perfectly ripe cherries. The cherries are then hand-sorted to ensure quality.
The cherries are initially left to ferment for 18 hours to enhance their fruity characteristics. They are then depulped and fermented in water for an additional 48 hours.
After washing, the coffee is dried on raised drying patios known as marquesinas, where the parchment is turned frequently to ensure even drying. The drying process takes approximately 20 days.
Pink Bourbon
Pink Bourbon is a variety that has attracted significant attention within the specialty coffee community due to its exceptional quality.
Although it was initially believed to be a hybrid of Yellow and Red Bourbon, recent research indicates that it is actually descended from an Ethiopian landrace variety.
This genetic background helps explain its complex aromatic profile, vibrant acidity, and floral characteristics, often compared to Geisha, one of the world's most highly regarded coffee varieties.
Pink Bourbon also appears to have greater disease resistance than some other Bourbon varieties, making it a valuable choice for coffee producers.
Cuatro Vientos
Coffee from Finca El Triunfo reaches international markets through Cuatro Vientos, a Colombian exporter founded in 2018 by brothers Julian and Yonatan Gonzalez.
Cuatro Vientos provides farmers with logistical support, access to drying and quality-evaluation facilities, as well as marketing services and financial education.
Through its partnership with Sucafina, the company connects producers with new markets and develops programs designed to support quality and sustainability.
Coffee in Colombia
Colombia has a long history of coffee production, dating back to the 19th century. The country's climatic and geographical diversity allows coffee to be harvested almost year-round.
The growing focus on specialty coffee has also changed the way farmers market and add value to their harvests. Higher-quality lots are increasingly promoted individually, under distinct brands and producer stories, while certifications such as Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, and Organic have become increasingly common.
