Finca El Triunfo is a story of achievement, passion, and dedication, founded in 2005 by Nicolas and Patricia Ome. The farm’s name, meaning “triumph” in Spanish, reflects the couple’s joy and pride in their accomplishments in both agriculture and life. It was their first coffee farm, and over the years they have transformed it into an outstanding example of excellence in specialty coffee cultivation.
The farm is located in Huila, one of Colombia’s most renowned coffee-producing regions. Here, fertile volcanic loam soil provides essential nutrients for healthy coffee growth, while the mountainous climate and abundant water resources, including the Magdalena River, contribute to a unique terroir.
Huila forms part of the Colombian Massif, an important mountainous region that supplies drinking and agricultural water to a significant portion of Colombia’s population, further highlighting the region’s importance to the country’s agricultural economy.
In addition to the Pink Bourbon featured in this lot, Nicolas and Patricia cultivate Red Bourbon, Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo, all varieties valued for their distinctive cup profiles.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, with particular attention given to selecting perfectly ripe cherries. The cherries are then manually sorted to ensure consistency and quality.
Processing
The cherries are initially left to ferment for 18 hours to enhance their fruity characteristics. They are then depulped and undergo a further 48-hour fermentation in water.
After washing, the coffee is dried on marquesinas, where the beans are turned regularly to ensure uniform drying. The drying process takes approximately 20 days, allowing the coffee to develop a clean and balanced profile while preserving its delicate aromatic characteristics.
Pink Bourbon
Pink Bourbon is a variety that has attracted considerable attention within the specialty coffee community due to its exceptional quality.
Although it was initially believed to be a hybrid between Yellow and Red Bourbon, recent research indicates that Pink Bourbon is actually derived from an Ethiopian landrace variety.
This genetic heritage helps explain its complex aromatic profile, characterized by bright acidity and floral notes, with qualities often compared to Geisha, one of the world’s most celebrated coffee varieties.
Pink Bourbon also appears to demonstrate greater disease resistance than other Bourbon varieties, making it an increasingly valuable choice for specialty coffee producers.
From Huila to International Markets
Coffee from Finca El Triunfo reaches international markets through Cuatro Vientos, a Colombian exporter founded in 2018 by brothers Julian and Yonatan Gonzalez.
Cuatro Vientos provides farmers with logistical support, access to drying and evaluation facilities, as well as marketing and financial education services. Through its partnership with Sucafina, the company connects producers with new markets while developing programs focused on quality improvement and sustainability.
Colombia’s Coffee Heritage
Colombia has a long history of coffee production, dating back to the 19th century. The country’s extraordinary geographic and climatic diversity allows coffee to be harvested throughout much of the year.
In recent decades, the growing focus on specialty coffee has transformed the way Colombian farmers market and add value to their harvests. High-quality lots are increasingly presented individually, with their own identities, origins, and stories.
Certifications such as Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ, and Organic have also become increasingly common, reflecting the industry’s growing focus on sustainability and responsible production.
With its 88-point SCA score, Finca El Triunfo – Pink Bourbon is a refined expression of Huila’s exceptional terroir, combining black tea, grape, blackberry, raspberry, lemon, and chocolate into a vibrant, complex, and beautifully structured cup.
