The most historically famous coffee-growing region in Colombia is Eje Cafetero, also known as the Coffee Triangle. It includes the departments of Caldas, Quindío, and Risaralda. Together, these regions cover an area of 13,873 km², representing approximately 1.2% of Colombia’s territory, while containing around 15% of the country’s total coffee-growing land. Due to its cultural and agricultural importance, Eje Cafetero has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Although Eje Cafetero remains one of Colombia’s most important coffee regions, cultivation has expanded far beyond this area. In recent years, departments such as Huila, Tolima, Cauca, and Nariño have become highly appreciated origins, and today they are among the country’s largest coffee producers by volume.

Colombia currently has approximately 540,000 coffee producers, with nearly 95% being small farmers managing farms of less than 5 hectares. Together, these producers represent an essential part of rural Colombia and contribute significantly to the country’s agricultural economy.

This Supremo blend reflects the characteristics of Colombian coffee grown in high-altitude regions. The large bean size, one of the defining features of Colombian Supremo classification, comes from coffee cultivated at elevations reaching up to 2,150 meters above sea level. At these altitudes, the slower maturation of coffee cherries allows sugars and aromatic compounds to develop gradually, creating a balanced cup with natural sweetness and complexity.

After processing, the green coffee beans are carefully sorted by size. This classification step is important for achieving consistency during drying and roasting. The screening equipment uses a series of stacked sieves, where coffee beans are separated according to their size as the machine moves them through different levels. Beans remain on the sieve corresponding to their final size classification, ensuring a more uniform lot.
