Beneficio San Diego is one of Costa Rica’s most modern coffee mills. Founded in 1888, the mill has maintained a strong tradition of innovation throughout its history. Today, Beneficio San Diego specializes in coffees from the renowned Tarrazú and Tres Ríos regions.

The mill is committed to improving efficiency and maintaining increasingly high quality standards, while also playing an important role in working closely with local coffee producers to foster strong community relationships and promote sustainable coffee production.

This coffee is classified as Strictly Hard Bean (SHB), a designation reserved for coffees grown at altitudes of 1,200 meters above sea level or higher. At these elevations, coffee cherries mature more slowly, allowing the plants to develop greater complexity and accumulate more nutrients and sugars. The result is a denser, sweeter bean with excellent potential in the cup.

During dry milling, the lot was carefully hand-sorted according to European Preparation (EP) standards, with a minimum screen size of 15 and a maximum of eight defects per 300 grams.

The coffee undergoes a lactic anaerobic fermentation, a controlled process designed to enhance the natural sweetness and complexity of the beans while preserving a clean and balanced cup profile.

The result is a vibrant yet refined coffee, combining the delicate sweetness of white sugar and golden raisins with warm cinnamon nuances. Its juicy body and clean finish make this a distinctive expression of Costa Rican specialty coffee.
