Guatemala Finca El Chorro Natural captures the essence of the Huehuetenango region, one of Guatemala’s most highly regarded coffee-growing areas. Located at high elevations and benefiting from cool yet stable microclimates, Finca El Chorro provides ideal conditions for the slow maturation of coffee cherries and the development of intense aromatic profiles. Fertile soils, clean mountain air, and the agricultural traditions of local farmers come together to create a truly distinctive terroir.

The natural processing used for this micro-lot highlights the sweetness and fruity expression of the beans. The cherries are dried whole in the sun on raised beds, allowing for even dehydration and the natural concentration of sugars. The result is a vibrant coffee with intense notes of red fruit, strawberry, and plum, complemented by delicate floral accents. The body is velvety and juicy, while the bright, predominantly malic acidity brings freshness and balance.

Finca El Chorro is renowned for its meticulous approach to quality and for combining tradition with modern processing techniques. Each lot is handled with care, reflecting the farmers’ passion for producing coffees that are clean, sweet, and expressive.

The history of coffee in the Fraijanes region is one of the oldest and most fascinating in Guatemala. Located southeast of the capital, the area began cultivating coffee as early as the 19th century, during a period when coffee production was becoming the country’s main economic driver. Its proximity to Guatemala City facilitated the rapid development of coffee farms, which benefited from access to markets, infrastructure, and labor.

The region is strongly influenced by Pacaya Volcano, one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes. Its periodic eruptions deposit a fine layer of volcanic ash, enriching the soil with essential minerals and contributing to the superior quality of the coffee. Elevations ranging from 1,400 to 1,800 meters above sea level, combined with these fertile volcanic soils, create an ideal terroir for coffees with high acidity, clean body, and intense aromatic profiles.

Fraijanes is characterized by abundant rainfall, variable humidity, and a dry season with plenty of sunshine. Mornings are often covered in mist and dew, which quickly lift, allowing coffee to dry naturally on patios or raised beds. This microclimate contributes to the development of vibrant coffees with excellent clarity and natural sweetness.

In recent decades, the area has undergone significant changes due to urban expansion. However, the remaining farms continue to produce some of Guatemala’s most highly regarded coffees. Today, the Fraijanes region is recognized for its intense, aromatic, and well-balanced coffees, perfectly reflecting the combination of tradition, geography, and the expertise of local farmers.
