India is a country full of color—bowls of spices in shades of brick red and ochre lining the lively market streets, turquoise waters crashing onto golden beaches, and lush volcanic mountains cutting through picturesque flora.

The state of Karnataka is shaped by the Western Ghats mountain range, which hosts one of the world's most incredible biodiversity hotspots.

According to legend, in the early 17th century, the saint Baba Budan was stopped at the maritime port of Mocha in Yemen during his pilgrimage to Mecca. He discovered a coffee tree, wrapped seven beans in his turban, and smuggled them into India.

Once he arrived, he planted the beans in his garden, near the evergreen vegetation and the flourishing mountains of Karnataka state—thus marking the birthplace of coffee in India.

The beautiful Chinennahally estate is located on the outer slopes of the Bababudangiri Range in Chikmagalur district. This region is known for its high-quality Arabica coffee.

The estate is a family-owned business and has been with the family for the past 70 years. Many varieties of native trees are cultivated on the farm, adding to the region’s rich flora. Coffee is grown under a two-tier shade system, providing the best conditions for cherries to develop excellent quality and flavor.

The farm offers free accommodation for all plantation workers, along with spaces for social gatherings and relaxation after a hard day's work.

During the harvest season, ripe red coffee cherries are carefully hand-picked, depulped, fermented, washed, and finally sun-dried.
