Uganda Drugar Natural Extra Clean coffee comes from a long-standing tradition of natural Arabica processing, and its identity is closely linked to the term DRUGAR, an acronym for Dry Ugandan Arabica. This method has been used for generations by Ugandan farmers, who dry whole coffee cherries in the sun to produce a coffee with a full body, intense sweetness, and well-defined fruity notes.
Drugar coffee primarily comes from smallholder farmers across various regions of Uganda, including the Rwenzori region, where altitudes ranging from 1,500 to 2,300 meters and volcanic soils create excellent conditions for Arabica cultivation. Uganda has a long history of coffee growing and is even considered the birthplace of Robusta, while commercial Arabica production dates back to the early 20th century.
Natural processing involves drying the whole coffee cherries, allowing sugars from the fruit pulp to penetrate the beans, intensifying fruity and chocolate notes. In the Extra Clean version, particular emphasis is placed on careful cherry selection, controlled drying, and rigorous sorting to eliminate defects and achieve a cleaner, more consistent cup.
Uganda Drugar Natural Extra Clean offers a rare balance between the rustic character of African natural coffees and the clarity of a modern selection. It is a versatile coffee, sweet and intensely aromatic.
