What are the differences between Robusta and Arabica?
TASTE
Arabica coffee beans are considered superior in terms of taste. They have a smoother and sweeter flavor, with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruity notes.
Robusta has a stronger, harsher, and more bitter taste, with grainy or rubbery nuances.
Caffeine Level:
Arabica coffee beans contain less caffeine than Robusta, while the latter has approximately twice as much caffeine as Arabica.
Use:
Robusta is more commonly preferred for adding to different blends, helping to balance the bitterness of the coffee.
Resistance:
Robusta is less demanding when it comes to climatic conditions and more resistant to diseases that can affect coffee trees. This is probably also the reason why Robusta accounts for only 40% of global coffee production. The remaining 60% comes from Arabica coffee growers.
