Description
Cocoa beans are fermented and dried, unroasted.
ABOUT THE FARM
Indigenous farmers on the island of Guadalcanal make full use of their tropical climate and fertile volcanic soil, growing cocoa alongside native coconut palms, root vegetables, and hardwood trees. They are adapting to the challenges posed by global warming, being among the first communities to experience its consequences as island communities, and are making efforts to make the most of their resources to ensure sustainable agriculture.
ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIP
Our local partner, Cathiro Commodities Development Ltd., leads efforts to create greater economic opportunities for indigenous farmers in the Solomon Islands. Through initiatives addressing local deforestation and providing support for agroforestry projects focused on cocoa cultivation, these farmers are empowered to maintain a viable ecosystem on their farms while simultaneously promoting biodiversity in the region.
