Description
Gibraltar is a small town in the state of Zulia, Venezuela, with a population of approximately 4,000 people. Its location near Lake Maracaibo contributes to the unique aroma profile of Gibraltar cocoa beans, known for their Criollo variety characteristics.
The original seeds come from Chururí, in the state of Táchira, which has received recognition from the International Chocolate Awards.
Chococao purchases cocoa from 32 local farmers in Gibraltar, ensuring traceability and supporting sustainable farming practices. This family-owned company focuses on revitalizing cocoa production in the southern region of Lake Maracaibo.
They operate the largest cocoa processing center in Venezuela, supplying consumers around the world. The center provides guidance on pruning, genetic improvement, and the use of biological inputs to increase productivity and quality. Chococao also organizes training and awareness programs every year.
